Designing Environments to Inspire Social Success

PSC WA is pleased to present Caroline Fewster to deliver two fabulous new professional development sessions over a full day.

Be ‘wowed’ by Caroline as she explores practical and enriching possibilities for early childhood environments that inspire, teach and excite.

Session One:
Presentation may be everything ... Creating the Wow Factor in Children’s Services

This workshop explores imaginative possibilities for creating early childhood environments.... that look and feel amazing. Participants in this workshop will be encouraged to:

• Consider possibilities for linking the principles, practices and learning outcomes of the EYLF to the intentional design of a learning environment.

• Challenge some long held assumptions of a ‘room arrangement’ and presenting a particular place especially designed for young children and their families.

• Expand our vision of what is possible in embracing the environment as a significant educator in our early childhood settings.
The WOW Factor always exceeds the expectations of the children and their families in Children’s Services.

Session Two:
Designing and Creating Environments that Nurture Children’s Social Learning and Behaviour

A workshop to explore the possibilities of the physical environments of each children’s service, including Long Day Care, Family Day Care, In Home Care and Occasional Care, and OSHC within the framework of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF, 2009) and the OSHC My Time Our Place framework.

Helping younger children to learn social skills is an essential part of early development. In this workshop, participants will look at teaching strategies to:

• Encourage children’s individual responsibility so that children can learn a sense of competence by engaging in meaningful social learning experiences

• Support and model pro-social behaviours with children.

• Shape positive behaviours by planning for individual children within a group setting

Many practical social learning materials and ideas will be demonstrated in this workshop.
